FPGA Based Acoustic Modem for Underwater Communication

    Get PDF
The underwater communication modem is based on ultrasound a sensor which gives efficient result underwater applications. System performs Amplitude shift Key (ASK) also known as On-Off Shift Key (OOK) at the transmitter part and this signal is demodulated at receiver point with audio amplifier and diode detector. ASK modulation is the simplest type of digital modulation technique. In this carrier signal is getting modulated with baseband signal so for positive signal it gives level ‘1’ and at negative signal it gives level 0. This design uses commercial ultrasound transducer of 200 kHz bandwidth. The underwater channel is highly variable; each point can have changes in signal, which change according to environmental factors as well as the locations of the communicating nodes. So distance vs. voltage of the received signal is measured. It is observed that voltage decreases with increasing distance

Background: In Ayurveda almost all skin diseases are explained under Kushta Rogadhikara. Ekakushtha is a Raktapradoshaja, Vata–Kaphapradhana Tridoshaja Kshudrakushta. Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory skin condition typically characterized by raised, well defined, erythematous skin lesions of varying size that are surmounted by silvery-white scales. In India prevalence of Psoriasis varies from 0.44 to 2.88%. Aim: The aim was to evaluate the role of Ayurvedic treatment modalities in Ekakushta. Materials and methods: A 5 years old male child was apparently normal before 8 months gradually noticed flaky skin lesions over the foot with itching & peeling of skin & in the extensor surface of both elbows, pitting of nails. There were rough dry patches seen in the back, armpits, groins, forehead gradually seen over palms and foot which was treated with both Shamana and Shodhana Chikitsa. Shodhana was done by Snehapana with Mahatiktakagritha followed by Abhyanga with psora oil and Parisheka Sweda with Nimbakaranjapatra. Acchasnehapana was given and maximum quantity taken was 95ml. Virechana was given with 25g of Trivritleha[6] along with 30ml of Triphala Kashaya and he had 8 Vegas. Samsarjanakrama was done for 5 days. Patient was advised to consume Shamana Aushadis (internal medicines) for 15 days. Result: The study showed significant result with marked improvement in the Lakshanas

Background: Dental visit is considered primary marker of oral care. Maternal characteristics, attitudes and psychosocial factors and the child’s oral health may influence dental visits of preschool children. This study aimed to determine the influence of maternal and child factors on dental services utilization among preschool children. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 600 preschool children and mothers visiting Anganwadis and Primary Health Centres in Bangalore Urban District. Mothers answered questions on socio-demographic characteristics and dental attendance. Maternal dental anxiety and child’s oral health-related quality of life were assessed using modified dental anxiety scale and early childhood oral health impact scale respectively. Oral health of children and mothers were assessed using WHO oral health assessment form 2013 for children and adults respectively. Descriptive statistics, Poisson’s regression with robust variance and mediation analysis were performed and p<0.05 was considered significant. Results: The proportion of dental visit among preschool children was 13.5%. Majority of the mothers had high dental anxiety (76.2%) and perceived their children’s oral health-related quality of life to be good (71.2%). The caries experience in mothers and children were 63.5% and 54.2% respectively. Mothers with higher education (PR=2.05, p=0.037), caries experience (PR=3.17, p<0.001) and poor perception of child’s oral health-related quality of life (PR=5.88, p<0.001), and children with pain experience (PR=1.62, p=0.003) and decayed teeth (PR=1.81, p=0.017) influenced children’s dental visit. Maternal perception on child’s oral health-related quality of life mediates the relationship between child’s oral health and dental visit. Conclusions: The utilization of dental services among preschool children was low. Maternal and child oral health factors influenced the child’s dental service utilization. Hence, oral health promotion approaches towards mothers and children is the need for the hour

A randomized controlled comparative clinical trial on Jwarahara effect of Mukkaamukkatukaadi Syrup with Kiratatikta Syrup in Febrile Children

Ayurvedic classics have described many diseases amongst which Jwara stands first because of its uniqueness to make everyone suffer, since birth to death. Jwara being one of the commonest symptoms which accompanies almost all constitutional diseases has been coined with the term Rogadhipathi. Fever is defined as temperature in rectum more than 100.4°F (38°C), in oral cavity above 99.5°F (37.5°C) or in axilla above 99°F (37. 2°C). If we don’t treat fever in its earlier stage, there will be more chances of hyperpyrexia which may cause febrile convulsions which leads to brain damage. Therefore, it is necessary to control fever at its earlier stage. One such Jwarahara formulation is Mukkaamukkatukaadi Gulika and Kiratatikta which is converted into syrup form to overcome the palatability issues. A sample size of 30 patients was selected by simple random sampling method and 15 patients were allotted in two groups. It was planned to compare the result between Mukkaamukkatukaadi syrup in Group A study group for STG and LTG and Kiratatikta syrup in Group B control group for STG and LTG. On STG comparison, the difference in mean in Group A and Group B were 0.49,0.44 before treatment changed to 0.96 and 0.98 after treatment respectively.  On LTG comparison, the difference in mean in Group A and Group B were 0.49, 0.44 before treatment changed to 2.02 and 1.96 after follow up respectively. This depicts both the formulations effective when consumed for longer duration. From the results and observations it can be concluded that Group A and Group B are equally effective and equally significant on reducing the temperature in both STG and LTG. No adverse drug reaction was found during the study

A case study on Vatakaphaja Unmada : Autism Spectrum Disease

Introducton: Manasika Vikara can be caused due to derangement in Manasika Doshas like Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Irsha, can be due to Atyartha Prakupita Shareerika Doshas which then vitiates the Manovahasrotas or can be due to Agantuja Nidanas lika Graha Badha or Bhootabadha Janya. Unmada is on such Manasika Vikara caused due to vitiation of Shareerika Doshas finally disturbing the Manasika Bhavas leading to the specific Doshik Lakshanas. It can be compared to Autism spectrum disease as the very definition of it incorporates the features like impairment in Social and communicative behavior, restrictive and repetitive behaviors. The present case has been diagnosed as Vatakaphaja Unmada having autistic features Materials and methods: The treatment protocol of Unmada like Basti, Nasya, are adopted with classical medicines according to the Dosha predominance. Result: There has been improvement in the clinical manifestations after two sittings of the treatment. Discussion: Basti by its Veerya moves throughout the body, does the Dosha Vilodana and eliminates it from the body. Nasya being the Dwara to Shiras opens up the Manovaha Srotas. These procedures along with the internal medications have brought the improvement in present case.  Here is the paper describing about the very case, its treatments and the result obtained

A new energy regeneration system for A BLDC motor driven electric vehicle

    Get PDF
Amidst the ever-increasing advancements in the technological realm-the electrical vehicle industry too has seen several leaps. This particularly owes to three primary factors one, the fact that we are running out of conventional resources like petrol and diesel; two, higher efficiency of electric vehicles; and finally, less pollution caused by them. This has led to a burgeoning in the use of BLDC motors with electronic commutation not only in EVs but also in industrial and commercial applications. This requires an enhanced driving and control mechanism to tap the efficiency that such motors provide to increase performance and to get better controllability and reliability. This paper presents a controller for this EV motor driver with increased efficiency by combining various strategies

Genome-wide association mapping and comparative genomics identifies genomic regions governing grain nutritional traits in finger millet (Eleusine coracana L. Gaertn)

    Get PDF
Micronutrient deficiency is a serious and underestimated global health concern. Identifying existing micronutritional richness in traditional crops, and breeding this potential into staple crops that are more frequently consumed, could offer a potential low-cost, sustainable solution to micronutrient deficiency. Here, we provide the first insight into genetic control of grain micronutrient content in the staple food crop finger millet ( Eleusine coracana ). Quantifying the existing natural variation in nutritional traits, and identifying the regions of the genome associated with these traits, will underpin future breeding efforts to improve not only global food and nutrition security, but also human health
